We all follow something whether we realize it or not. Whatever your mind chooses to think about the most is what you follow. It dictates your steps, decision making and your overall outlook on life. There is a root to your thoughts, and it leads to only two options. What do you follow? Or rather, who?

The Follower Series is a zine series (zine: self-published work about a niche topic) based on true events written in a fictional format about the artist/author's life and lessons learned (main character). The main character, The Follower, must find their way out of a desolate wasteland that they were banished to by Fear. The Follower faces many trials from Fear and his minions such as Social Anxiety, Depression, Insecurity, etc. However, Hope and his helpers: Peace, Joy, etc. help guide The Follower through each trial and teaches lessons that changes The Follower's life (and hopefully yours).

About the Artist

Artist Name: The Follower

My mission as a zine artist/author is to bring people together and back to Hope through shared trials of life as we battle Fear, the root of all negative emotions. This story is based on my real-life story and the lessons I’ve learned from Hope, the root of all positive emotions. These lessons transformed me into a completely new person and revealed my faults that kept me stuck while teaching me a new way of thinking which set me free. My goal is for people to apply these lessons to their life and help others do the same by helping me distribute this story to as many people as possible. Together, we can point the world toward Hope!

What is a Zine & Why Did I Choose This Form of Art to Spread this Story?

A zine is kind of like a magazine but not at all. It is a self-published work usually in the form of a booklet. They are typically hand-made but I prefer to print my zines in order for many people to be able to receive them rather than a select few. They explore niche topics that can be personal, artistic, or really anything you want. There are no rules!

Zines are meant to be distributed and traded which is why I sell them as prints. I sell in the hopes that others will want to spread this story and help others choose Hope. That is also why I have decided to post this story on the internet in order to reach even more people. My main focus is to spread a tangible version of this though (the original zines) because it gives people a reason to talk face to face with one another about their struggles. We are not meant to be alone. These zines act as a way to bring people together.

How to Spread the Story

I rely heavily on readers to help me spread this story to the world and reach people who need a glimpse of Hope in their life. Our human experiences and struggles can bring comfort to others going through the same thing which is why it is so important to share our experiences. Please help me share mine and possibly save a life.

Here are some ideas:

Give this zine away to a stranger, friend, acquaintance, family, etc.
Place it in little free libraries, trade with others, community bulletin boards, your social media, etc. If you place it in a public area, please ask permission first. (I have links for digital zines on my "Digital Zines" page of my website! You don't have to share those links, but it's a nicer experience for people to read the zine in the form of a flipbook as it was designed to be read. Just copy and paste it wherever you'd like on the internet or text messages to your friends!)
Place stickers on your belongings. If you want to place them in public areas, do the right (legal) thing and ask for permission first. (Thank you for going above and beyond!)
